Help to shape the future of tourism in Gloucestershire

In the Forest of Dean we are aware that visitor economy is one of the largest contributors to the health and sustainability of our own economy. The The Scale and Impact of the Farming, Food, Drink & Rural Economy in Gloucestershire Report published in March 2019 estimated that in 2017, tourist contributed £131.6M to our economy with over 3M visitors descending on the District (Day & Staying Visitors).

About Visit the Gloucestershire Partnership

Visit Gloucestershire announce in January 2021, that Gloucestershire County Council has invested £100k in the future of the county’s visitor economy, helping to ensure it goes from strength to strength in a post covid-19 world.

Although the county is currently still very much working to defeat Covid-19, The team at Visit Gloucestershire, backed by the county council and supported by the GFirst LEP, borough and district councils and destination marketing organisations, is already hard at work, making sure the county’s visitor economy is well positioned to thrive in the years ahead.

Visit Gloucestershire are bringing together (virtually) key organisations in the county with the aim of achieving a Together for Gloucestershire approach for a future that:

  • Allows all visitors to access and enjoy everything the county has to offer.
  • Minimises the impact on the climate and environment.
  • Supports the local economy, making the most of local supply chains.
  • Creates jobs for local people.
  • Actively promotes the whole county – making sure the benefits are felt from the Cotswolds & Severn Vale to the Forest of Dean.
  • Furthers the potential of digital technology.

What will our visitor economy look like post COVID-19?

That is the golden question and one that we all need to consider, share and collaborate on.

As part of the funding from Gloucestershire County Council, the Visit Gloucestershire Partnership are working to produce a comprehensive Tourism Strategy, due for release in March 2021.

Please take part in the two surveys, one from a business perspective and one from a local resident viewpoint and help to shape the strategy.

Everyone’s feedback is valuable and much needed, with the tourism industry contributing in excess of £1billion per annum, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Visit Gloucestershire Partnership are working with Tomorrow’s Tourism to support the development of a new countywide strategy, to help the visitor economy and tourism sector to bounce back after COVID-19.

They would like to hear everyone’s views, both from a business view and also as a local resident by telling use what you think Gloucestershire is like to live, work or visit.
