Forest Energy Community Initiative

Forest Energy Community Initiative are at the very early stages of developing a new community energy initiative in the Forest of Dean and would love anyone who is interested to get involved in shaping the initiative from the outset.

The first stage of the initiative involves an installation of community owned solar panels on a community building in the Forest of Dean. Therefore, Forest of Dean District Council have set up a new partnership with Freedom Leisure and The Dean Academy in Lydney to install community owned solar on the school and leisure centre to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.

The installation will be funded through a community share offer and there will also be other community activities such as energy awareness workshops for the local area and a carbon footprint app which is being developed as part of the wider AURORA Project that we are a part of. More information can be found here: www.aurora-h2020.eu/fod-home/.

Ultimately, this project to be a springboard for new community energy activity in the Forest of Dean led by local people. Therefore, Forest Energy Community Initiative are looking for local people who are passionate about our community and climate change to get involved in the running of this new community energy initiative.

To kick-off the conversation, we will be holding a drop-in event at Lydney Community Centre from 3-7pm on Tuesday 1st November and would love for anyone who is interested to come along.  More information about this informal event can be found here Lydney Community Drop in Event
